The Ethnology program with a specialty in Cultural Differences and Transnational Processes is a 2-year second-cycle full-time study that provides a general academic education. The program is taught in English and leads to a master's degree. The program focuses on understanding cultural differences and transnational processes from an anthropological perspective. Students will learn about cultural practices and beliefs, social structures, and historical contexts in different societies around the world. The program aims to develop students' analytical and critical thinking skills and prepares them for various professions in academia, cultural institutions, NGOs, and international organizations.
This is a description of a Master's degree programme in Cultural Differences and Transnational Processes, offered by the Faculty of Anthropology and Cultural Studies at Poznan University in Poland. The programme is taught in English and lasts for two years. It focuses on cultural changes and challenges in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as other regions of the world. Students have the opportunity to study and conduct research at various institutions in Maynooth, Vienna, Lyon, Bern, Ljubljana, or Barcelona, as part of the CREOLE international program network.
The programme offers courses on topics such as Migration, Multiculturalism, Xenophobia, and Racism in Europe, Anthropology of Religion, Anthropology of Tourism, Social Mobility, Identity, and Power. Graduates of the programme gain specialist humanistic education and a broad knowledge of cultural phenomena, cultural organizations and their functioning, the significance of individual elements of culture, and the historical variability of forms. The programme also aims to develop humanistic attitudes necessary for intercultural cooperation, work with institutions responsible for the protection of tangible and intangible heritage, and the ability to work with and animate various groups.
Graduates of the programme can work in cultural institutions, education, tourism, media, and in any areas where research on public opinion is conducted (such as advertising and marketing). The admission requirements include a B2 level command of English, an interview, a motivation letter, and a scientific CV. The selection procedure is based on these elements, with a maximum of 35 points to be scored during the process.
The selection procedure for a university program includes several steps such as creating an account, enrolling in the program, paying the enrollment fee, attaching scanned documents obtained abroad, uploading a photo, lodging all required documents electronically, taking the entrance examination, and receiving the final results through the Online Admissions System. Candidates are required to submit a set of documents which include a photo file, a scan of university diploma, scientific resume, and a letter of motivation, all of which should be scanned and uploaded in PDF format. Documents obtained abroad must be legalized, accompanied by an apostille, and translated by a sworn translator or certified by a Polish consul. Candidates may need to provide a certificate of recognition of a foreign certificate as equivalent to a Polish Matura certificate, and a document confirming the entitlement to study tuition-free, if applicable.
