The Faculty of Materials Engineering offers an M.Sc. program in Biomaterials, which focuses on the development and application of advanced materials for medical purposes. This interdisciplinary course provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to design, characterize, and fabricate biomaterials for various medical applications. The program covers a wide range of materials used in medicine, including metals, ceramics, polymers, and composites, and emphasizes the role of materials science in their design and optimization.
The curriculum of the Biomaterials program also includes topics such as biocompatibility, the interaction of materials with living cells, and tissue biology. Students will learn about the latest methods of shaping material properties, design, and manufacturing, with a particular emphasis on the replacement or regeneration of tissues and organs. They will also gain an understanding of the degradation of various biomaterials and the impact of the living organism on the behavior of biomaterials and implants.
The Faculty of Materials Engineering is committed to providing its students with a comprehensive education that includes both theoretical and practical aspects. Thus, the program offers modules such as nanomaterials and nanotechnology, phase transformations, and defects of crystalline structure, among others. The students will also learn about the microbiological corrosion of biomaterials and methods of biomaterials characterization.
Graduates of the Biomaterials program will be well-equipped to pursue careers in biomedical companies, state and private hospitals and diagnostic clinics, research, testing, and diagnostic laboratories, research centers, and healthcare consultancy services. They will have the necessary knowledge and skills to design and develop new biomaterials and medical devices, and to contribute to the advancement of the field of biomaterials in general.
