The Faculty of Civil Engineering offers a 4-year Bachelor's program in Civil Engineering that prepares students to design, construct, and maintain a wide range of infrastructure and environmental systems. Civil engineers play a crucial role in society as they are responsible for building structures like buildings, bridges, tunnels, airports, railways, highways, and environmental systems. Students who choose to study Civil Engineering will gain knowledge and skills in execution, operation, and modernisation of buildings and civil engineering structures. They will also learn about cost pricing, legal and administrative issues in the construction industry, and computer methods that support the design and investment process.
The program covers a wide range of subjects over four years. In the first two years, students will learn about mathematics, physics, mechanics, and chemistry, which form the foundation of engineering knowledge. They will also study social sciences and humanities, which broaden their study perspectives and prepare them for professional interaction with people. Additionally, a core of basic civil engineering subject areas, including courses in structures, surveying, transportation, materials science, management, and environment, will be taught.
In the third year of the program, students will have the opportunity to select a range of optional and elective courses in areas of their interest. After completing the third year, students can choose a specialisation for the fourth year. Depending on the number of students interested in a particular field of study, two specialisations are available each year: Civil Engineering Structures, Construction Engineering and Management, Energy-saving Construction, and Transportation Engineering.
The modules offered in the program are designed to provide students with a strong foundation in the key areas of civil engineering. Some examples of modules include Building Materials, Theoretical Mechanics, Technical Drawing, Strength of Materials, Mechanics for Structures, Technology and Organisation of Building Works, Transportation Engineering, Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, Concrete Structures, Metal Structures, Bridge Engineering, and Electrical and Sanitary Installations. With this broad range of modules, students can gain the knowledge and skills needed to excel in their chosen field of specialisation in the fourth year and beyond.
