Magister Programme in Intellectual Property and New Technologies
The Magister Programme in Intellectual Property and New Technologies is a full-time, 1.5-year (3 semesters) programme offered by the Jagiellonian University of Krakow in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland. The programme is taught in English and leads to a Magister degree, which is equivalent to a Master's degree.
The programme focuses on the legal protection and commercial exploitation of new technologies, and offers a comprehensive curriculum on the intellectual property law related to new technologies from an international perspective. It adopts a comparative approach to IP regulations, with EU law serving as a main point of reference. Some of the main topics covered include new technologies and patent law, copyright in the digital era, commercial communication in the context of trade marks, designs and unfair competition, data protection, privacy and personal rights on the Internet, and Internet service providers’ liability.
The programme takes advantage of new technologies and is delivered through a state-of-the-art e-learning platform for the first, non-residential semester. The remaining two residential semesters take place in Kraków and combine traditional lectures and seminars with e-learning.
The Jagiellonian University is one of the oldest universities in Europe, founded in 1364, and one of the best universities in Poland according to national rankings. The Faculty of Law and Administration of the Jagiellonian University is considered the best law faculty in Poland, confirmed by independent branch rankings. The programme is developed in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), the global forum for intellectual property policy, services, information and cooperation, and the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland, the state administration agency responsible for the implementation of tasks connected with industrial property protection.
The programme partners offer a wealth of expertise and resources for students, including global services to protect IP across borders and resolve disputes, technical infrastructure to connect IP systems and share knowledge, and cooperation and capacity-building programs to enable all countries to use IP.
