The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry program at Adam Mickiewicz University is designed for first cycle students and is taught in English as a full-time weekday course. The program has a duration of 3 years and upon completion, students are awarded the professional title of licentiate (licencjat). The program has a general academic educational profile.
This chemistry major with specialization in general chemistry is ideal for students who are interested in studying structures and properties of substances, chemical processes, experimenting, discovering new chemical compounds and working safely in a laboratory. During the course, students acquire knowledge and skills in basic chemistry, analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, chemical technology and related sciences. The program is focused on developing social cognitive competences such as understanding, analyzing and interpreting measurement data and drawing conclusions.
Some of the courses offered in the program include fundamentals of analytical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, chemical technology, instrumental analysis, spectral methods, and crystallochemistry.
Upon graduation, students will have the knowledge of basic inorganic chemistry, basic organic chemistry, basic analytical chemistry, and basic physical chemistry. They will also have the ability to analyze, interpret, and explain physical and chemical properties of substances, solve analytical problems not only related to work in a chemical laboratory, apply alternative solutions to eliminate hazards arising from work in industry, work in a team both as a member and a leader of the team, and possess English language skills at a level which makes it possible to follow the latest publications in the field of chemistry.
The program provides students with excellent career prospects such as chemical industry workers at various levels, chemical laboratory workers, analytical laboratory workers, analytical and quality control workers, employees of research centers and institutes, representatives of companies offering chemical equipment and reagents, and employees in teams developing new recipes and technologies of production and obtaining modern and innovative products.
