Adam Mickiewicz University (AMU) is a public research university located in Poznań, Poland. It was founded in 1919, shortly after the end of World War I, and named after the famous Polish poet, playwright, and political activist Adam Mickiewicz. The university initially had faculties of law, medicine, philosophy, and sciences, and has since grown to include faculties of social sciences, educational sciences, political science and journalism, and history, among others.
Throughout its history, AMU has played a key role in the development of Polish science, culture, and education. During World War II, the university was closed by the Nazi occupiers, and many of its professors and students were arrested and sent to concentration camps. After the war, AMU was reopened and has since become one of the most prestigious universities in Poland.
As for the number of foreign students who apply to AMU each year, I don't have access to up-to-date data, as it can vary from year to year. However, according to AMU's website, the university is home to over 1,400 international students from over 70 countries, making it a diverse and cosmopolitan academic community.
